A Peaceful Place
June 2025
This is an acrylic painting based off of a photo of my best friend’s backyard. When I first started this piece, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to make, I just knew I wanted to paint something cozy. At the time the most cozy and peaceful place I knew was my friend’s backyard. I really wanted it to have a glowy and dreamy sort of feeling, so a lot of the objects are rendered a bit hazy, except for the pool and chair. This was the first time I had painted on a canvas in a long time, so there are a few things that I think I would have done differently. But really it was the emotion that I wanted the piece to exude the most, which I think I did well, so I’m very happy with the outcome.
I first started with an underpainting using a bright neon green. I hadn’t ever done an underpainting before, but it was actually very helpful to regulate the values. Please see the photos below for the process of this piece!
