Jazz Bar

This animation was made in February 2024 to fill my portfolio for an illustration and animation school. I was inspired by videos of jazz bars I had seen and the warm cozy vibe they have. I wanted this piece to give the feeling of the opening of a mystery show. I originally wanted to add a figure that was revealed after the hand takes the martini, but I thought it was difficult to achieve in the time frame. So instead I changed it to reveal a painting in the background. I imagined that she could be the key to solve the mystery in the episode.

I made this piece using the procreate animation feature. I first drew the outlines of each frame before coloring any of them. For most of the elements I took them from the first design and adjusted them slightly each frame to animate them. Then I painted the background and duplicated it for every frame, adding less and less gaussian blur every time. Finally I merged each background into the colored foreground.
