Melted Gold

I made this piece based on the prompt “Melting” given in a drawing challenge group chat I am in with fellow artists. I had an Idea of a futuristic world that has an abundance of gold. I was inspired by how some 3d printers work; creating a piece by ‘lifting’ it out of a bath of filament. In a similar manner, this robot is being lifted and pulled together in a pool of gold.

I first started by sketching out the design of the face. As you can see it’s a bit different than the finished look!

I then made the line work for the piece. Followed by a basic wash of color. After that I added a bit more detail and dimension. Lastly, the finishing touches, like the highlights and the glimmer!
